Biografia

Cary Grant começou a fazer teatro, e acabou abandonando os estudos aos 14 anos. Em 1918 estava na Trupe de Bob Pender, dançando e fazendo acrobacias. Em 1920 a trupe chegou nos Estados Unidos, onde Cary se apresentou na Broadway. Não quis regressar ao seu país, e ficou nos EUA trabalhando como modelo e esporadicamente ator (trabalhou como homem sanduíche e atendia esporadicamente a senhoras).

Depois de participar de algumas comédias musicais, como “Golden Dawn” e “Nikki”, conseguiu um contrato com a Paramount, em 1932, onde mudou o nome para Cary Grant (um trocadilho, do nome de um dos maiores atores da época Gary Cooper). Estreou em This Is the Night, de Frank Tuttle, fazendo um papel secundário. Em Blonde Vênus aparece ao lado de Marlene Dietrich. Mãe West se agradou dele, e exigiu sua participação em dois filmes seus. Depois de atuar com diversas estrelas, como Katherine Hepburn e Irenne Dunne, Carole Lombart, conseguia finalmente chegar ao estrelato.

Em 1941 concorreu ao Oscar com Penny Serenade, mas acabou perdendo para Gary Cooper. No ano seguinte perderia para Bing Crosby. Esse ano também marcaria o início de uma colaboração importante para ambos os lados, quando atuou pela primeira vez para Alfred Hitchcock em Suspicion, que acabou sendo prejudicado, já que o final imaginado por Hich não pôde ir ao ar, sendo trocado por algo mais paliativo. Mas o público queria mais Grant. Fazendo comédias ele provou ser um ator versátil. Durante as décadas de 50 e 60 ele seguiu fazendo enorme sucesso em comédias, dramas e suspenses. Em 1966 ele abandonou as telas.
