Biografia

Filho de um barbeiro, a James queria ser arquiteto, chegando a estudar na Universidade de Princeton. Na Universidade, conheceu Joshua Logan, que lhe apresentou Henry Fonda. Os dois convenceram-no a tentar o cinema. Após algumas participações, obteve seu primeiro papel de destaque em “Do Mundo Nada se Leva” (1938), de Frank Capra, seguido de “A Mulher faz o Homem”. Alistou-se na Força Aérea Americana, durante a 2ª Guerra, e se tornou Coronel, obtendo várias medalhas de Honra.

Após a guerra, seguiu com sucessos como A Felicidade Não se Compra” (com Donna Reed) e alguns filmes do mestre do suspense Alfred Hitchcock: “Janela Indiscreta” (ao lado de Grace Kelly), O Homem Que Sabia Demais”, (1956) e “Um Corpo Que Cai” (1958).

Ainda fez para TV alguns filmes, como “Hawkins” (1974), que acabou rendendo-lhe um Globo de Ouro de Melhor ator dramático. O ator foi indicado a 5 Oscars, ganhando em 1941 por Núpcias de Escândalo. James Stewart faleceu em 2 de julho de 1997.
