Biografia
Robert Mitchum nasceu em Bridgeport, em Connecticut, filha de imigrantes noruegueses. Com apenas 2 anos de idade perdeu seu pai. Em sua infância e adolescência ele se envolveu em muitas confusões, chegando a ser preso aos 14 anos. Acabou fugindo e retornando para sua casa. Ainda adolescente, conheceu sua única esposa, Dorothy Spence.
Cansada da instabilidade do irmão, sua irmã aconselhou o garoto a participar de um curso de teatro. Casando-se cedo, teve que começar a trabalhar como operador de máquinas. Após um colapso nervoso, saiu de lá e começou a procurar papéis no cinema. Estréia no cinema Uma década antes como um performer em produções de baixo orçamento como “Aerial Gunner” (1943), um drama de guerra dirigido por William H. Pine. Pine. Fez algumas participações em faroestes de baixa qualidade.
Dentre os papéis de destaque, encontram-se “Crossfire” (1947) por Edward Dmytryk, “Out of the Past” (1947) de Jacques Tourneur e “The Great Theft” (1949), dirigido por Don Siegel, e os westerns ” Perseguido “(1947) de Raoul Walsh, e” Blood On The Moon “(1948). O ator também é conhecido por seu envolvimento amoroso com estrelas como Lucille Ball, Carroll Baker, Gloria Grahame, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth e Ava Gardner.
Conheceu um agente que lhe arrumou uma entrevista com o produtor da série de filmes western Hopalong Cassidy, foi então contratado para ser o vilão em alguns filmes de 1942 e 1943. A partir dai sua carreia decolou.
