Biografia

Rita Hayworth nasceu em 1918, em Nova York, descendente de espanhóis. Estreou como dançarina aos 12 anos, em um night club. Durante toda a  sua adolescência, apresentou-se em diversos bares e cassinos na fronteira dos Estados Unidos com o México. Em 1935 ela assinou contrato com a FOX, onde fez inicialmente pequenos papéis atuando em mais de 25 filmes. “Paraíso Infernal” (1939) foi seu primeiro grande sucesso. Fez ainda “Sangue e areia”, refilmagem do clássico de Rodolfo Valentino, “Ao compasso do amor”, de 1941. Em seguida, partiu para a Columbia, trocando seu nome de Rita Mansino para Rita Hayworth. Lá estrelou filmes como Only Angels have Wings, The Strawberry Blonde (com James Cagney) e Blood and Sand (com Tyrone Power), todos realizados entre 1939 e 1941. Dançou com os dois maiores dançarinos de Hollywood, Gene Kelly e Fred Astaire. Sua imagem de mulher fatal consolidou-se no filme Gilda (1946), onde aparece sensualmente dançando e cantando (dublada). A ruiva Rita mudou radicalmente sua imagem ao se transformar em uma loira e cortar os cabelos curtinhos para o filme “A dama de shangai”, de Orson Welles (seu segundo marido). Seu ultimo filme foi A cólera de Deus, de 1972. Faleceu em decorrência do Mal de Alzheimer, em 1987, pouco antes de fazer 69 anos.
