Biografia

Antes de ser atriz, Lucille Fay Lê Suer foi dançarina em boates de Detroit e Chigago, chegando a trabalhar também como garçonete. Enquanto trabalhava em um bar, foi levada por um conhecido para fazer um teste na MGM, onde conseguiu um contrato de 5 anos. Seu nome, Joan Crawford, foi escolhido em um concurso realizado pela MGM através da revista Movie weekly. Sua estréia no cinema foi em 1925, no filme Pretty Ladies, em que fazia o papel de uma corista. Seus maiores sucessos acabaram sendo A mulher que perdeu a Alma (1930), Possuída (1931), Pecado da carne (1932), Grande Hotel (1932), O que aconteceu com Baby Jane? (1962), em que atuou com Bette Davis.

Apesar de ser conhecida como uma das maiores atrizes do seu tempo, ganhou apenas um Oscar, com o filme Almas em suplício (1945), apesar de ter sido indicada mais duas vezes com Sudden Fear e Possessed.
Após a morte de Joan, sua filha adotiva Christina lançou um livro em que relatava a crueldade da sua mãe. Livro este que acabou sendo levado às telas no filme de nome homônimo “Mommie Dearest”, tendo Faye Dunaway no papel principal.
